Mariners, Yoshihisa Hirano Agree Upon $1.6M Deal

The Seattle Mariners have agreed to a one-year, $1.6 million deal with Yoshihisa Hirano.

Hirano has spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks as a valuable reliever.

He appeared in 137 games for Arizona and posted a 3.47 ERA.

Hirano can earn $500,000 in bonuses based on pitching appearances: $50,000 each for 30 and 35, $75,000 apiece for 45 and 50, $100,000 for 55 and $150,000 for 60.

The Kansas City Royals have brought back Greg Holland on a Minor League deal.

Holland will make $1.25 million on the one-year deal if he's added to the 40-man roster. He also has the chance to earn more through performance bonuses.

The reliever was 1-2 with a 4.54 ERA last year in 40 relief appearances with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Cincinnati Reds have agreed to terms on a four-year, $64 million deal with Nick Castellanos.

The deal matches the biggest free-agent contract in team history.

It allows Castellanos to opt out and become a free agent after the 2020 or 2021 seasons. He gets salaries of $16 million in 2020, $14 million in 2021, and $16 million in 2022 and 2023.

There's a mutual option for 2024 at $20 million with a buyout of $2 million.
